Steve Harvey’s book Think like a man, act like a woman might be one of the best-selling motivational books, which has made millions. But the view it propounds is grossly flawed, some would argue.
Indeed, there is no use for women to desperately try to act or think like men, as they possess unique traits which organisations urgently need and most men envy. And, all what women in positions of influence need to do is apply their distinctive skills to realise the untapped potential of business organisations.
One prominent women who holds this view is Gugu Mjadu, executive general manager of Business Partners Limited. She believes the growing number of successful women in business proves that the Midas touch of women is having an impact on the business landscape. And it is for the very good of business owners – both male and female. This, she says, offers numerous benefits in the workplace. A very important point she makes is: “The emergence of female entrepreneurs has clearly shown that success is not dependent on the traditional male style of doing business. Research shows that businesses started and run by women survive just as well as male-run businesses.”
She points out seven traits which make women entrepreneurs to stand out:
- Multi-tasking
- Intuition
- Prudence
- Attention to detail
- Excellent administrators
- Empathy
- Advice
