Most organisations preach about giving moral support to education, but few have gone the extra mile like The Motsepe Foundation. The NGO, which is under guidance of the Mamelodi Sundowns billionaire chairman, Patrice Motsepe and his wife, Dr. Precious Motsepe, runs an initiative which gives underprivileged students, who are mostly from Historically Disadvantaged Individuals (HDI), access to quality education through funding.
Recently the organisation awarded 371 bursaries to applicants from the 26 District Municipality/Metro Motsepe Foundation Development Forums throughout the country for the 2015 academic year.
The awards are in addition to the 360 students who were awarded bursaries in 2014 for study at the various tertiary institutions. To qualify, the recipients had to meet the following criteria:
·achieved Educational/ Academic Excellence;
·come from families in need;
· intend to pursue courses preferably related to Mathematics, Science, Engineering, Technology and Business Studies:
Students who have achieved excellent academic results in other areas were considered as well.
