Crime is regarded as one of the biggest obstacles of South Africa’s economic development as it has created an impression to the outside world that the country is a war zone. It is driven by the objective is to rid society of this ill that Ever Africa decided to develop a safety app.
Through Project Namola, Ever Africa is conducting a trial to demonstrate the viability of the app in the Monument Park area of the City of Tshwane.
The safety app uses the geo-location of subscribers who need emergency help. By simply pressing a button, a notification is sent to Metro Police members who will respond.
The app is currently only available for Android and it only people who live and work in the coverage area can download the app.
Thus far, the response has been overwhelming, according to a representative from Ever Africa. He says that it has created a buzz among the public about how speedily police can respond to emergencies.
“The most crucial lessons from the pilot so far have been about the responders’ app. Our focus during the development stage was around the users’ app and its ability to send an alert to the nearest few available responders and for the responders to accept and be directed to the user,’ explains the official.
