Gugu Mtetwa appointed to Italtile board

Gugu MtetwaCeramic tiles and bathroom ware manufacturer, Italtile has appointed Ms Gugu Mtetwa to its board of directors. Ms Mtetwa’s appointment as an Independent Non-executive Director came into effect on 28 January. She has gained experience in key sectors, which include Financial services, Telecommunications and State-Owned Entities. Ms Mtetwa is currently an Independent Non-executive Director and Chairman of the Audit Committee of the Development Bank of Southern Africa, Independent Non-executive Director of Equites Property Fund and Independent Non-executive Director of Aviation Co-ordination Services.

Ms Mtetwa holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and a Post Graduate Diploma in Accounting, both from the University of Cape Town (UCT). Ms Mtetwa has served as Partner at PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC) and as Managing Executive: Finance at telecommunication giants Vodacom. In 2012, Gugu was appointed to be part of the PwC Southern Africa Management Committee, where she served as Transformation and Diversity leader across the firm. In her role, she drives the implementation of PwC’s retention strategy of black accountants.

In a statement on SENS, the information dissemination service administered by the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE),Italtile welcomed Ms Mtetwa to its board and looked forward to her contribution. The company said her appointment reflects the Group’s continuing commitment to transforming the composition of its Board and enhancing the experience and expertise available to the business. Gugu’s appointment sees Italtile’s board having just over 40% black representation.
