The formation of an Ngwaabe Based Company, Moremi M Trading, this year confounds the perception that, with sluggish economic conditions, there is no longer room for new start-ups to thrive.
Mmetli Calvin Maroga, founder and director, an optimist, regards the current situation as the real test for businesses to be “more innovative” and ‘think outside the box’.
“The conditions mean one thing: we have to find creative way to package our products and services,” he says, in a chat with Transform SA Online.
Indeed, to be distinctive from other organisations, Maroga has had to take Moremi M Trading’s services a notch higher than what has been readily available on the market.
It took thorough market research and creativity for Maroga to realise that, after registration, businesses struggle to find effective means of marketing and branding themselves to announce their presence in a crowded trading environment. Aptly, to manage this burden, he decided to provide company registration services, and branding and marketing at one point.
“We don’t just offer ordinary marketing and branding. We start off by assisting in the registrations of companies. We ensure that all the documents that are required for each business specific to its industry’s regulations are in order. This includes tax clearances and Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) certificates. On conclusion, we offer marketing and branding solutions to help sustain the business,” says Maroga.
Maroga believes Moremi M Trading’s uniqueness lies in its approach, which entails organising every single paperwork, creating profiles, logos and advertising for his clients. “We emphasise on the business solutions that we offer.”
Maroga says it would be remiss for him not to acknowledge the setbacks that Moremi M Trading has been encountering.
Being located in a rural area of Malekane Village, means might be keeping operating costs like rental manageable, but there has been less business activity to benefit from.
For a long time, Moremi M Trading has been experiencing problems with getting quality printing done of clients’ jobs on time. Fortunately, a mining company has sponsored the purchase of a state-of-the art printing machine.
“It also is difficult to make clients comprehend the concepts behind certain logos,” he says.
Moreover, Maroga concedes that he can only go so far as a branding and marketing company in respect of the development of clients’ businesses. “It would be quite involving for us to teach people how to manage businesses. We only help them create market awareness. ”
The journey for Moremi M Trading has only begun. According to Maroga, there are a number of plans in the offing. He is interested in starting a community newspaper to be circulated in the area where he lives. “I will collect all the local news and businesses be promoted through classified sections.”
“I also want to start a casting agency to put my area on the map. The casting agency will deal with acting, magazines and advertising, “he says, adding that the construction sector is another area he has identified.
Maroga describes his passion as seeing people succeed in whichever businesses they specialise in. His sage advice: “Start off with what you know and stick to it. Take time to teach yourself about the business that you want to go into. Be efficient. More importantly, know what you want.” You have heard it from a hands-on man!
