Despite exceptionally gifted students scoring distinctions annually in their final matric examinations, if truth be told, South Africa’s education standards have been falling, unfortunately, steadily since 1994.
Curro CEO, Chris van de Merwe, said he believed the use of devices such as tablets could be key to addressing the problem. “Schools should adapt to that,” he stressed, in an interview published in Sunday Times.
Advtech CEO, Lesli Maasdorp, concurred with him. “Access to quality online education is one of the ways for young people to leapfrog and prepare for jobs that are not even around today,” he said.
A general lack of qualified or committed teachers, limited resources in some parts of the country has been said be one of the contributing factors of a chaotic state of the country’s education system.
