Following his anticipated departure from the embattled electricity utility, people kept second-guessing Briam Dames’ next destination. Others speculated that he was going to be part of BEE’s ‘next big’ billion rand consortium. But at least people now know that he will continue rendering his services to the corporate world.

Nedbank informed Transform SA that Dames, had been appointed to the board of Nedbank Group as an independent non-executive director.

The poise Dames demonstrated at Africa’s largest power utility in times of crisis since he was appointed CEO in July 2010 impressed Nedbank the most . A statement from the bank said:“Dames demonstrated leadership in successful large-scale corporate turnaround management programmes, funding programmes, infrastructure build and deployment programmes, as well as in corporate governance and sustainability reporting.”

The impression observers had was that Dames might not add another board responsibility to his role as a non-executive director of the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC).
