ECO-BOOST YOUR BUSINESS

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that every bit of help counts when it comes to running a successful business. The Green Tourism Incentive Programme (GTIP) is one such lifeline that’s been making waves in our tourism sector. Let me walk you through why I’m excited about it and why you should be too!

1. It Saves You Money! I love a good deal, and the GTIP offers just that! Mokgaetji Flora Phala from Mminanoko Eco Guesthouse in Limpopo slashed her electricity bill from R2 500 to just R500 a month. Imagine saving R2 000 monthly just by installing energy-efficient solutions. That’s money back in your pocket, which could be better spent elsewhere.

2. It’s a Win-Win for the Environment We all know how important it is to go green, but what if you could save the planet and your business? The GTIP makes it easy. Gugulethu Nogaya from Imvomvo Country Lodge in the Eastern Cape saw her energy consumption cut in half after adopting green technologies. It’s proof that you can run a sustainable, eco-friendly operation without breaking the bank.

3. There’s Funding Support Who doesn’t love a bit of financial help? The GTIP provides partial grants to cover the cost of retrofitting your facilities with energy and water efficiency equipment. After a free resource efficiency audit, eligible businesses can receive up to 90% funding on relevant technologies, capped at R1 million. That’s a huge helping hand towards going green!

4. Proven Success Since its launch in 2017, the GTIP has approved over 216 applications, with a total grant value exceeding R140 million. The success stories are numerous, with businesses across the country benefiting from reduced operational costs and increased sustainability. It’s a tried-and-tested programme that’s genuinely making a difference.

5. It’s Easy to Apply No one enjoys complicated application processes, but the GTIP keeps it straightforward. The process is divided into two simple phases, and the Department of Tourism, in partnership with the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), handles all the heavy lifting. All you need to do is apply and start saving!

So, if you’re in the tourism business, I strongly encourage you to check out the Green Tourism Incentive Programme. It’s not just about cutting costs – it’s about investing in a sustainable future for your business and the planet. You can find out more at tourism.gov.za or idc.co.za.
