The Association for the Advancement of Black Accountants of Southern Africa (ABASA), and Finance and Accounting Services Sector Education and Training Authority (FASSET) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
This important collaboration between ABASA and FASSET is aimed at outlining clear strategic deliverables between the two parties with specific focus on financial awareness and the supply of 200 interns through the ABASA Business Forum for the benefit of ABASA Stakeholders.
Linda Maqoma, President at ABASA, said: “A cornerstone to the transformation of the accounting profession for ABASA, is the development of a high calibre black talent pool that is geared towards sourcing young black professionals with unwavering support for young black women in the accounting professions. This partnership is a significant milestone given our country’s state of youth unemployment, and we are therefore encouraged by the opportunity to play a part in restoring our economy through meaningful participation of black professionals. It is also important to be actively vocal on critical issues through the other initiatives that are being partnered on, such as the Prof Wiseman Nkuhlu Lecture and the Business Empowerment Series.”
Ayanda Mafuleka, CEO at FASSET, said: “Through this collaboration we seek to see 200 graduates/ interns being equipped and garnered with the best tools and experience from their placement through the various ABASA stakeholders. I am excited to see how the beneficiaries will travel this journey and gracefully carry it through to completion. I look forward to also seeing the beneficiaries put into practice the lessons learned in the different organizations that they are placed in. Upon completion of the internship, I have no doubt that the sector will be injected with a capable workforce that is equipped with sharp and relevant skillsets required. This collaboration will also play a vital role in contributing to the alleviation of unemployment in the country through the placement of these interns.”
