Kgatelopele Lime is in the process of acquiring PPC Lime from PPC South Africa, a subsidiary of JSE-listed entity, PPC. PPC Africa’s asking price for PPC Lime is R550 million.
Once the transaction is concluded by the end of the year, PPC Lime will be 39% black-owned, comprising black economic empowerment investors, relevant PPC Lime employees and host communities of PPC Lime.
Kgatelopele, a private company formed for solely for the purposes of the PPC Lime acquisition, has four shareholders – IMR Resurces South Africa, Kolobe Nala Investment Lime, HEX2M, and JJJL Mining. Interestingly, Johannes Claassen, the owner of JJJL, as the former CEO of PPC, has extensive understanding of PPC Lime and its operations.
Following a rigorous restructuring and refinancing process, PPC Group deemed PPC Lime as a non-core operation to its business and decided to dispose it to interested parties in December 2020.
PPC Lime manufactures and distributes reactive lime, hard burnt lime, hydrated lime, burnt dolomitic lime and raw limestone. It supplies industries such as iron and steel, alloys, gold, uranium, copper, nonferrous metals, sugar refining, water treatment and flue gas desulphurisation. PPC Lime’s assets are two quarries and a rotary kiln plant in the Northern Cape.
