The appointment of Nomkhita Mona, as the new Chief Executive Officer of the South African Post Office, on the 1st of March 2021, is not surprising to her peers. There could not have been a better candidate for the position.
Mona brings a wealth of experience to undoubtedly one of the most challenging roles amongst State Owned Enterprises (SEO), tasked with steering the entity towards the path to sustainability and self-sufficiency. She has worked for organisations in both the private and public sectors, with more than 15 years’ experience at executive level.
Welcoming the appointment of Mona, Communications and Digital Technologies, Minister Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams, in a statement said, “She will play a leading role in making sure that the Post Office continues its turnaround momentum and to render an impeccable service to South Africans. As the shareholder we will give Mona every support she needs in order for her to succeed.”
“Mona’s appointment comes at a time when the post office is faced with financial challenges that have continued from the 2018/2019 financial year, amid a constrained fiscus. She takes on the responsibility of stabilising the Post Office. I have no doubt that she will be equal to the task,” the Minister added.
Mona will serve as the CEO of the South African Post Office (SAPO) for a five-year term.
