The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) will be seeking to solidify South Africa’s status as prime exporter of fruit and vegetables as it showcases local products and services at the 28th Fruit Logistica trade show that will take place in Berlin, Germany from 5 – 7 February 2020.
The Fruit Logistica trade show is regarded as the world’s leading international trade fair for the fresh fruit and vegetable industry. It covers every sector of the international fruit and vegetable supply chain from production, distribution and marketing, through to the point of sale. This includes global players as well as small and medium sized suppliers from all around the world.
The Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Fikile Majola explains that this year’s participation follows on a successful showing in 2019, where the dti led a business delegation of 25 companies to showcase and compete for the €246 billion global fruit and vegetable market share.
“Our showcasing last year was absolutely essential for purposes of market development and for meeting new and existing customers. Companies displaying at our pavilion reported a total of R113 million in export orders, which were signed on the spot during Fruit Logistica 2019. These were also accompanied by after sales orders amounting to R795 million, six months after the trade show,” says Majola.
the dti secured exhibition space for 25 exhibitors. This year’s exhibitors comprise of 11 small, medium and micro-sized enterprises, 11 other sized firms, and 3 industry associations or export councils.
