Transport Minister Dipuo Peters has welcomed the appointment of Skhumbuzo Macozoma as the new CEO of the South African National Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL).
“Macozoma brings strong professional credentials and an impressive track record of leadership and service in the industry,” Minister Peters said in a statement.
His appointment comes after Nazir Alli, who served as SANRAL CEO since its establishment in 1998, retired after almost two decades at the helm.
Minister Peters said the appointment came at a crucial time when SANRAL is in the process of implementing some of its major projects such as the Moloto Road, N2 Wildcoast Highway building and the upgrading of the N3, which is the busiest road freight corridor in South Africa.
Well-resourced person
“I believe that with his experience, Macozoma is a well-resourced person to guide SANRAL and ensure that it fulfils its mandate to manage South Africa’s road infrastructure, while also incorporating good governance,” Minister Peters said.
Macozoma holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) Degree in Civil Engineering and a Master of Science (MSc) degree in the same field.
He was the Chief Officer at Transport and Logistics of the 2010 FIFA World Cup Local Organising Committee in 2008 to 2010.
He also served as a Transport Manager in the same Committee from 2007 to 2008.
Prior to that, he was Chief Director for the Integrated Infrastructure Network Development in the National Department of Transport (2003 – 2007) and had also worked as a Project Manager and Research Engineer for the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) from 1993 to 2002.
He also served as the Managing Director of the Johannesburg Roads Agency.
Currently, he is the CEO of the Electronic Tolling Company and has in the past served as a non-executive director of SANRAL.
“His previous positions in the past make him a well-rounded executive who is best placed to lead SANRAL into the future. We look forward to working with him and wish him the best in his new role,” Minister Peters said.
