The appointment of Peter Matlare as deputy CEO of Barclays Africa can be read as a sign that Barclays Africa is committed to transforming its management structures by giving Historically Disadvantaged Individuals an opportunities to prove themselves and excel.
Matlare is not new to in the Barclays Africa fold, not least in executive management. He has had a long relationship with Barclays Africa as a nonexecutive director since 2011. He was also with Tiger Brands, until his resignation.
Barclays Africa CEO, Maria Ramos, praised Matlare as “a seasoned executive who brings a wealth of skills and leadership experience”. Matlare, who will become joint deputy CEO of Barclays Africa with David Hodnett, will be responsible for operations in the rest of Africa.
