The City of Johannesburg in conjunction with Joburg Market, Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA) and Gauteng Growth Development Agency (GGDA), The Department of Trade and Industry (dti), Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (GDARD), South African Development Community (SADC) and some V4 member countries (Poland and Sri-lanka) have partnered to bring Agro-processing Trade and Investment Seminar, and a Business-2-Business Match-Making Session. Named the Joburg Market Day for Agricultural and Agro-processing sectors entrepreneurs.
The Joburg Market Day aims to present opportunities to Agro-processing businesses in Gauteng to exhibit their market-ready products to potential international market opportunities..
This is part of the City of Joburg’s the drive toward supporting entrepreneurs in the agriculture and agro-processing sector to access export market and investment opportunities.
The event is scheduled to take place on the 05 & 06 April 2016 from 08:00 to 13:00 at the Joburg Market, Johannesburg. The first day will be composed of a first come first serve bases of an Investor Tour, where the Joburg Tourism unit will take investors on the Mandela Footsteps. The second, 06 April 2016 will comprise of the Investor Seminar and a Business-2-Business matchmaking session. Buyers from eight countries have confirmed attendance and will be bringing their buyers. Countries which confirmed are:

- Sri-lanka
- Hong Kong
The key note speaker at the event will be Minister of Small Business Development, Honourable Lindiwe Zulu. The Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg Cllr Parks Tau will set scene by d the role of Agriculture and Agro-processing in the City Johannesburg.
The Member of Mayoral Committee: Economic Development, Councillor Ruby Mathang and Seda’s Acting CEO, Lusapho Njenge will grace the event and will highlight the role of exports in the agricultural and agro-processing sectors. This event will also strengthen and align a partnerships across all spheres of government to support entrepreneurs and stakeholders within the sector.

- Fine foods (e.g. Biscuits, Tinned food items);
- Beverages (e.g. Wines, juice, milk, water);
- Perishables (Fresh Meat, Fruits and Vegetables; Cheese; Fresh cut flowers).
- Commodities (maize, sugar, beans, nuts)
- Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG)
The partners will participate as panelist members and partaking in the debates to assist businesses with compliance related issues during the event on 6 April 2016. Sector specific experts and other key stakeholders will also participate in the programme. These experts will lead discussions by sharing their knowledge of the sector as well as highlight economic opportunities and challenges in this industry.
