The winning combination: engineering meets auditing

In 2007, Betach Pty Limited was only a business concept with the “odd” combination of auditing management and engineering services. In 2015, the concept has been translated into a blossoming business which indications are that “can only grow bigger”, in the words of the company’s director, Mmila Abel Tselane.

Remarkably, the “odd” combination has clicked, contrary to convention. An engineering firms that looks to have its books done does not have to go further, Betach has auditing expertise right under its services.

For someone with a background in quality assurance and a degree in psychology, ostensibly, Tselane is the odd one out in accounting and engineering services. But he believes he is “the right person, in a right profession at the right time”.

“I may not possess the special skills in the business’ specialty, but the practical experience I have gathered has broadened the scope of the knowledge. Thus, I do consider this a solid foundation required to manage the business,” he says.

Truly, any doubts about his capability have been to rest by the business’ consistent development.

Betach has passed through a long and winding road to reach its current state. Building the structures of the business with meagre resources and sustaining it was a daunting task, Tselane recollects. “The situation I faced needed one to be dedicated, not to lose sight of the bigger picture, which was growing the business. Accountability and discipline saw us through,” he says.

In addition, Betach had to establish its presence in a space other companies were already known and were deemed “credible services providers”,’ says Tselane. “We had to leave no stone unturned in our marketing initiatives to catch the attention of whom we had identified as potential clients.”

Tselane says Betach is now known for its exceptional services. Now the company is at a juncture where it can be instrumental in fulfilling the country’s economic transformation objectives.  “Through employment creation and involvement in community development initiatives as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility, we want to contribute towards establishing an equitable society.”

Backed by a team of committed employees who share a single vision, Tselane is convinced Betach will meet its goals.

When Tselane retraces the great strides the business has made, it’s just hard to conceal his content. “We are well set on our mission to fulfill the vision to be the number one company in the South African economic hub,” he says.

Tselane does have few words for the country’s next generation of entrepreneurs. “Before you establish a business, follow these steps: research, research and research. You mustn’t be limited to South Africa. South Africa is only a small player in a global economy.”
