There is no denying that stories about the incompetence of tenderprenuers have bred clients’ mistrust of construction contractors. Nonetheless, Masibambeni GV is out to prove that its services are “in a different class”.
”People do not trust contractors because of the scams that have been reported in the past. And so, as a company, to demonstrate we are exclusive, before we embark on a project, we provide quality assurance guarantees to the respective clients. This is our standard quality assurance practice,” explains Jeffrey Mokoena, Masibambeni GV’s Managing Director.
He cautions project developers to be very particular about the service providers they settle for. “unfortunately, the truth is that not everybody can be a construction contractor. Construction is a skill which one develops over time. Besides, one has to be creative to offer different clients what they need.”
A general construction company that specialises in renovations, upgrading of structures, earthworks, plastering, roofing and tiling, Masibambeni GV has three owners Simon Karusa, Jeffery Mokoena and Rommel Mbingi. The bond amongst the three has been cemented by sharing a common vision and interests in the construction industry.
Based in Kliptown, Soweto, Masibambeni GV has nine employees which include a safety officer, a human resources manager and a brick layer. The company owns construction equipment. When need arises, it hires heavy duty equipment like pipe layers, cranes and forklifts.
For Masibambeni, it’s only the beginning, according to Mokoena. “Our eyes are set on growing bigger,” he says.
Growth, Mokoena adds, will enable the company to be more involved in corporate social responsibility activities, prioritising the skills development amongst the youth. Regarding skills development an area which Masibambeni has great interest is in the building the capacity of youth interested or already pursuing training in engineering.
“Any business exists to increase the bottom-line, but our goal is to impact beyond business, effect change in diverse areas in post-1994, an environment with many things to address,” Mokoena asserts.
Mokoena is living his childhood dream of working in the construction. He would go to the construction sites with his father who used to work in the industry. After attending Molapo Technical College, he joined the construction industry in 2003 and went on to work for Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA).
