South African society needs to curb its generally excessive anger and violent disposition for the transformation initiative to be successful. This was the theme of the message that Jonathan Jansen, the University of Free State Vice-Chancellor and Rector, conveyed in his interview that has been published on Bizcommunity Online platform.
“This is an angry country and we don’t just protest, we destroy. I don’t have anything against protesting against injustice, but it must be respectful,” lamented the respected academic.
The professor argued that, while the country’s violent past did an impact on the psyche of South Africans making them endemic to be violent, something had to be done about it. “What are we giving up? What is the cost if we capitulate to it?” he wonders, calling for a drastic change of attitude.
