In a month, the City of Tshwane has demonstrated that it is possible to run an efficient transport system that accommodates people with disabilities, the elderly and children.
The system’s design employs principles of universal design, which means it is accessible to persons with disabilities, commuters with shopping trolleys or baby chairs, children, older persons, etc.
Other organisations, metros or municipalities, countrywide can take a leaf from Tshwane and develop facilities for people with disabilities. People with disabilities have to toil to access public transport facilities. This deprives them of the right to fully participate in the economy.
