There is high despondency amongst the youth and the country needs more inspiring stories like Sandile Shezis.

At the time when peers he left at university to finish their degrees are yet to secure themselves even a job interview, Shezi is already a millionaire at only 23.

While most youth desperately wait for government tenders to kickstart their start-ups, Shezi knows what it means to start small and grow big.

Shezi developed business acumen from a young age. He recounts braving ridicule from his high school mates while selling muffins.

More determined to take the plunge, in his third year of varsity, he decided to drop out, and use his entire tuition to start trading forex. He recounts: “I used to leave home as if I was going to study each morning, but instead of going to varsity, I would go to the library and trade.”

What makes Shezi a maverick of sorts is that he has pursued an investment trajectory, peculiar to black South Africans: Forex trading, an over-the-counter market in which the currencies of the world are traded.

Raised by both parents in a Durban township.  Shezi is inspired by Sandile Zungu.

Shezi’s words of inspiration to disenfranchised youth is: “Inside every rich man is a poor kid that followed his dreams.“
