A week is an equivalent of a century in terms of economic transformation developments. Instances of some high profile figure making a statement first and thinking later are becoming one too many, sadly. On the other hand, commendably, others have emerged as fountains of wisdom.
“In 2014, our industry (mining) employed 496, 000 people, paying wages of more than R100-billion,” commented Roger Baxter, the CEO of Chamber of Commerce, dispelling claims mining companies are committed to transformation.
“Individuals should bring to the table more than their degree of blackness,” outgoing Nedbank Chairperson, Ruel Khoza in an interview with a weekend broadsheet, Sunday Times, questioning the rationale of black industrialists.
