Kwazulu Natal has been receiving negative press in the past two months. But there are a number of positive developments that are being overlooked. One of them is the Eyesizwe Contractor Development Programme in the mega-billion public sector construction landscape.
Hailed as the “game changer”, the programme aims to empower emergent firms through capacity building and skills development, according to the KZN MEC for Human Settlements and Public Works, Ravigasen Pillay.
The initiative’s rationale is that, when the small contractor gets exposed to major construction projects, they get a chance to move up the CIDB grading. This enables them to also tender for multi-million rand projects in future.
The department’s spokesperson, Mbulelo Baloyi says he is encouraged that big contractors support the scheme.

We are a start up construction company named Jeleza 2 Contractors who are wishing to be uplifted as we only have a Grade 1GB and 1CE.
The owners and management of the above mentioned company are hands on and have a vast experience in construction.
We wish to engage and participate in the programmes so our company can also grow in the CIDB Grading and levels.
