Those of us who follow cricket religiously should be aware that the national cricket team, the Proteas have defied the chockers tag and qualified for the semi-finals of the 2015 Cricket World Cup, against popular expectation. Beating Sri Lanka, the bookmakers’ tournament’s favourites, was not even in many a pundits’ imagination. The Proteas were supposed to have parked their bags, preparing to check out of their hotel and land at Oliver Tambo International Air Port to be welcome by Minister Fikile Mbalula.
One man who should be over the moon is Russel Domingo. The victory has done him a lot of good; pressure is off his shoulders, at least for now.
As a someone who was viewed as a “BEE” appointment in cricket circles, Domingo felt extreme pressure from two fronts – to convince doubting Thomases that he was the real deal, not some token figure meant to convince politicians, and 50 million cricket armchair critics who demand nothing short of instant success. Thus, the Proteas victory puts to rest any questions about his competence. Most importantly, it vindicates the appointment of suitable proficient people of colour into positions of influence.
Indeed, the overriding theme is: give someone a chance and they will try their best, then succeed.

I 100% agree with your opinion piece. As a Tswana coloured, i have been in a similar situation and have excelled! Glad Rus has done the same. Nothing beats excellence.
