There are people who will do everything to hang on to their high paying jobs in government entities, even when odds seem stacked against them. For former South African Revenue Services (SARS) Commissioner, Oupa Magashula, instead of fighting his premature departure from his previous post through legal means, he diverted his efforts towards entrepreneurship. And, thus far, the results are encouraging.
While his previous post involved ensuring that SARS had claimed every penny from registered tax payers, his current calling involves manufacturing smartphones and tablets under the brand name of Mint. Magashula’s company, Mint owns 75% of Boksburg based CZ Electronics.
CZ Electronics’ smartphone range include a basic 3G phone for low ijncome earners and another with a 8G storage targeted at the middle class.
The company is in a health financial position. Last year, it made a profit of R85 million last year. Bullish about future growth prospects, Magashula says: “If the brand captures of the market in two years it will triple our gross profit.”
Magashule reveals that CZ Technologies will be venturing into smart electricity meters, petrol pump counters, tracking devices and circuit boards for television companies.
