City Power is exploring new technologies “to mitigate the effects of power cuts”, Transform SA Online learnt from a statement issued by the organisation.
Amongst the technologies are installing smart meters, which would enable efficient management of electricity consumption.
“Expanding the geyser control systems to more residential areas across the city and the installation of solar water heaters will contribute to the reduction of the cost of heating water.”
The measure is an attempt to ensure an uninterrupted supply of power to consumers. Since the collapse of one of its coal storage silos, diesel shortages, and maintenance issues, Eskom’s capacity has been affected.
