End users must be wondering whether they should be excited or dismissive at the announcement of the ongoing talks on the revised roaming agreement between telecommunications giants, MTN and Telkom.
Analysts have observed that benefits of recent deals involving service providers have not really filtered down to end users. Instead, investors are the ones one who have profited massively.
In a press statement, Telkom, South Africa’s biggest landline provider, said that its revised deal with MTN would include the outsourcing of Telkom’s radio access network. If concluded, it would give both operators larger voice and data capacity. Telkom said it hoped everything would be finalised by the end of its financial year, March 2015.
