Ndumiso Madlala’s brewery business has no dreams of upstaging SAB Miller, but one thing that sets him apart is that he knows his niche market, and better than the global brewery giant at that.
As any savvy investor, Madlala, says he noticed a gap in the market that he wanted to explore and introduced Soweto Gold.
“I looked at the boom of the craft beer scene in South Africa and one thing was terribly missing for me: a brewery in the township.
“A lot of people who live in the wealthy suburbs are originally from Soweto and on the weekends they always come home. We’re trying to cater to that middle class,” he says.
Madlala, a chemical engineer by profession, previously worked for SABMiller and other brewers.
