The price of persistence and passion

You don’t have to spend a fortune on Robert Kiyosaki’s book Poor dad, Rich dad for inspiration in starting a business. You might be looking a million miles away while inspiration is nearby. And for Lindo Makhaye, the owner and founder of Lusizo IT Solutions, it came at an early age from observing a close family member starting a business from scratch into a thriving enterprise.

Now Lusizo IT Solutions, formed in 2004, is MultiChoice’s preferred agent for the Durban south region, besides being involved in other businesses. It employs 25 people, with branches in Pietermaritzburg and Durban.

However, for Makhaye, things could be much better and he is not complacent. “We are not where we would like to be, but our business is the strongest it has ever been,” he says. He aims at having a presence in each province by 2020.

It’s not been rosy for him, but, ultimately, persistence and passion have paid off -handsomely at that. Makhaye knows what it means to lose business contracts, trusted partners, fail to pay his house rent and still not to lose focus. He has a piece of advice for young people looking to follow in his footsteps: ““First identify something you like doing. Take your time to sharpen your skill and do it so well that people will be willing to pay you to do it.Only then you can say you are ready to consider being in business
