Instead of being defensive like similar entities usually do,Sacci has owned up to its shortcomings in its initiatives to create an inclusive society and promised to enhance its efforts.
Responding to a challenge by outspoken ANC secretary general, Gwede Mantashe, Sacci CEO Neren Rau said in a statement: “Sacci will work with the office of the ANC secretary general towards a series of constructive engagements on improving the domestic economic climate and building a more inclusive economy.” He added that it was important that the ANC in government engaged with civil society and the business community.
In a speech during a dinner hosted by Sacci in Johannesburg, Mantashe bemoaned little participation of black people in the economy and said transformation was the only way to address the challenge. Calling the private sector to up its ante, he said: “Where the state is in charge, there is progress. However, where the private sector is concerned, transformation is too slow.”
