Mjikeni Events Management, in partnership with the City of Joburg hosted the 2013 Sports spectacular and wellness day in Alexandra township on Friday 29 November.
The event also featured Banyana Banyana as they were officiating the games and were referees for the day. The event included games like, basketball, netball, rugby and soccer.
Mjikeni also hosted games for the physically challenged and we had three winners per category for Gold, silver and bronze. Headway, went all out and brought them with a bus and picked them up after their participation as they have special health conditions and could not wait for all games to be completed.
Realogile High school scooped the first prize, second prize went to SAPS, and the third prize went to Vari Consulting. Teams got a trophy and medals (Gold, silver and bronze) for participants. Other participating teams included, The city of Joburg, Emergency Management Services, South African Police Services, Vari Consulting, AlexFM, Bayport Bramley.
Mjikeni would like to thank Gauteng provincial sports for sponsoring the event with trophies and medals including a hamper for the Top goal scorers, one from Realogile and the other from Vari consulting.
The sports spectacular is a concept that came in 2012 when Alex Township turned 100 years. This event saw 6 high schools in Alexandra and 6 companies sharing memories and joining hands in giving back to the township. Last year Mjikeni also offered Alex learners 100 Bursaries, as the township was turning 100 years. Last years event also saw Realogile High school taking the first prize in soccer.
Next year Mjikeni will host same event as it has become the culture and more teams are keen on taking part, but since it’s a one day event, the first teams to register will be considered. Some of the teams are also sponsors, like Vari consulting played but also sponsored fruits for the learners participating.
