The Changing Diabetes Cycle Relay will take place from 07 – 09 November 2013, to raise awareness about Diabetes.
Sixteen local and international cycling teams, some living with Type 1 diabetes, will take the opportunity to give back to others through something they’re passionate about. In a 48-hour marathon, 1 200 kilometre effort, they will cycle from Joburg to George in order to raise funds for underprivileged children living with diabetes.
Former springbok player, Joel Stransky will be among the cyclists, he leads one of the teams.

The teams will pass through Soweto on Thursday, 7th November where community members are invited to come for diabetes screening and testing, and interact with the cyclists. Amongst the sixteen cyclists, will have international team all living with type 1 diabetes.
Venue: Diepkloof Library, Zone 1
(Opposite the Engene Garage, just where Orlando starts). It’s along Masupha Street, between Marthinus Smuts Drive and Diepenaar Street.

The team is made up of:
1. Team Cycle for Diabetes C4D: It is a professional team, lead by Dr Jacques van Staden, a George based doctor. They cycle in different events in the cycling calendar all year round to raise awareness about Diabetes.
2. Team Novo Nordisk: A global professional team, all of whom are living with Type 1 diabetes. Their story is one of strength, influence and motivation.
3. South African professional team, Bonitas Pro Cycling team.
4. Invitational team led by legendary former Springbok player Joel Stransky. The only team with two ladies, yourself Danielle and Genelle van der Riet from Johannesburg.
