South Africa is in need of young, dynamic leaders to step up and make a difference. I believe it’s time for us to take charge in shaping the future, and there’s no better opportunity than joining the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) Board. This is your chance to be part of a transformative team that directly impacts young people across the country.
If you’re passionate about uplifting your community and championing change, this is your call to action. The Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities (DWYPD) is looking for committed young people ready to create real change. As Deputy Minister Mmapaseka Steve Letsike puts it, “We are seeking youth with a deep understanding of community needs and a drive to uplift and empower their peers. This is a valuable opportunity to be part of a transformative journey, shaping policies and leading initiatives that will impact the lives of young people across our country.”
The importance of young voices in leadership is undeniable. While youth make up around 36% of South Africa’s population, young people still hold a relatively small percentage of leadership roles across the public and private sectors. As Minister Letsike highlights, “It’s time for young leaders to rise and drive forward a youth-centred vision that will inspire the next generation.”
The NYDA Board positions are open to South African citizens between 18 and 35 years old, and applicants should have relevant experience in fields like youth development, social work, finance, or law. And don’t worry if you’re nearing the upper age limit—you’re still eligible if you turn 35 while in office.
To apply, complete the online application on Parliament’s website by 18 November 2024. You’ll need to provide certified copies of your ID and qualifications, and successful candidates will undergo screening and verification to ensure their suitability for this impactful role.
As DWYPD reminds us, “This is a chance for young leaders to not only serve their community but to shape the policies and initiatives that will impact the future of South Africa.” So, if you’re ready to be part of South Africa’s future, take this step. Let’s make 2025 the year of youth-led change!
