Sunday Times Manuel honours Trevor Manuel

As part of the the annual Sunday Times Top 100 Companies, Former finance minister Trevor Manuel was honoured with a special commendation “for his exceptional contribution to the development of South Africa and for improving the lives of all its citizens during its first twenty years of democracy”.

On the choice for the former finance minister, the popular broadsheet’s editor, Phylicia Oppelt, commented:  “It is fitting that, in the 20th anniversary of our democracy, we honour Trevor Manuel for his significant contribution to this country.”

The Sunday Times awards recognise the best-performing JSE-listed companies, based on their shareholder returns and performance over a five year period. The awards recognise the private sector’s contribution to South Africa, “especially during these difficult economic times”.

Coronation Fund Managers was named as the Top Company for the second consecutive year. Dr Johan van Zyl, group CEO of Sanlam, was named as Sunday Times Business Leader of the Year and the chair of First Rand Group, Laurie Dippenaar, received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
