The birth of the Department of Small Business Development has been praised widely, but business magnate, Jannie Mouton, does not believe the institution will be as efficient as many small business owners expect.

The owner and Founder of PSG Group, Mouton sees the department adding another layer to existing levels of bureaucracy.

He has reservations with people with no business experience running the institution.  “They’ve never been in business. They’ll have conferences and drink bottled water and fly here and there and buy cars and have more conferences.

“They don’t have the experience of starting small businesses.”

Moutoun singles out the main problems to investment as too much red tape, unaffordable wage demands and labour volatility.
