The Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) remains upbeat that a solution to end the strike in the platinum sector can be found.
The Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) was roped in to facilitate wage talks between mining union AMCU and mining companies in the platinum belt – Lonmin, Anglo American Platinum and Impala Platinum.
AMCU declared a dispute with the mining houses and went on a strike demanding an entry level salary of R12 500.
Nerine Kahn, the Director of the CCMA, said discussions between the affected parties would not be revealed at this stage.
“We remain confident that a mediated solution will be found to resolve the strike in the platinum sector and that parties had come to the process willing to engage with each other.”
The wage negotiations, which are being held at the Southern Sun hotel in Arcadia, Pretoria, are scheduled to run until Wednesday. – SANews.gov.za
