Africa’s largest co-located Chinese Sourcing Fairs enables Southern African buyers, traders and businesses to explore

Once again China Homelife and China Machinex held a 3 day exhibition which took place at the Gallagher Convention Centre from the 26th to the 28th of September 2018.

The Expo provides a strategic and lucrative platform for buyers based in Southern Africa to do business with leading Chinese companies and manufacturers across various sectors. Buyers are able to source high quality products directly from manufacturers at competitive prices.

China Home life and China Machinex also hope to increase bilateral trade between Southern Africa and China, driving up economic growth in a relatively stagnant local market.

Amongst the delegates was our very own Rand West City Executive Mayor, Cllr, Mzi Khumalo who presented a speech. Below is the full speech:

Zǎoshang hǎo, (good morning)

Or as we say in this part of South Africa, Dumelang, Molweni, Sanibonani!!!

During the month of September, we celebrate all the men and women who have kept our traditions alive. We celebrate the crafters, the sculptures, the weavers, the musicians, the poets, the writers, the storytellers, the trackers, the healers and the builders from Africa who inherited their skills from their elders. We celebrate Heritage Month and encourages South Africans to come together to celebrate the rich and diversity of our nation.

Members of the Chinese delegation, on behalf of Rand West City Local Municipality, Provincial Government and myself, welcome to Gauteng.

And on behalf of the South African people, welcome to South Africa.

We are proud to host this important gathering that will explore trade and investment opportunities in our country.

Importantly, your investment to our City has brought hope to millions of our residents and will result in contributing to economic growth and development in our respective provinces and cities.

I feel a strong spirit of optimism that has been generated by the presence of our colleagues and comrades from China. We are excited to host you once again in our warm province and revitalise the sister partnership. I want to take this opportunity and reiterate our commitment to strengthening socio-economic relations between the two countries and support the vision of our Premier and the Governor in driving economic growth and development.

Our commitment is informed by the dedication of our leadership – starting from the President of the Republic of South Africa, His Excellency Cyril Ramaphosa and our – Premier Mr. David Makhura.

The two leaders have guided all of us who are in positions of leadership to put the interests of our people first. As a result, we are doubling our efforts to ensure that we create a prosperous future for our city and the province as a whole.

We envision a future where every young person in Rand West City will be armed with a skill, a trade, a qualification and knowledge that they can apply to grow the economy of the city. In this regard we are committed to creating exchange programmes focusing on skills development and transfer of skills.

We see a future where, as a result of being skilled, in a wide variety of fields, young people will become entrepreneurs of note, competing with the best in the world, and in line with global trends. We are confident that your investment will make it possible for us to usher in a new era of economic growth, enhanced development and shared value.

We want to work with you to train our civil servants and elected public representatives to be better equipped to improve service delivery.

Critically, during this term of office we want to inject speed, innovation and commitment to quality service delivery that will make Gauteng a leading economic hub in South Africa and Africa as a whole.

We are looking forward to partnerships that will drive investments in infrastructure projects to ensure a steady supply of energy, ICT and transport networks.

We will work with you all to enhance the vision of BRICS and ensure that the benefit of all cooperation projects improves the lives of all our people. We believe that the success of our City will benefit many people who have been previously excluded from the mainstream economy.

Programme Director, we have encouraged representatives from some companies to attend this event. There are entrepreneurs that are energetic who are willing to be partners and hosts of foreign direct investments. There are opportunities for investments in agriculture, maritime, tourism and many sub-sectors in manufacturing.

Today we celebrate strong relations between South Africa and the Republic of China through your investments in South Africa.

We welcome China’s rise as a strong, prosperous and successful member of the community of nations. Indeed, China’s success has brought with it economic benefits for our people as well as yours, and our cooperation on a range of issues has helped advance stability in South Africa and in the world.

We also know this: History shows that societies are more harmonious, nations are more successful, and the world is more just, when the rights and responsibilities of all nations and all people are upheld.

Programme Director, we can learn from our people. Chinese and South African students and educators, business people, tourists, researchers and scientists, including Chinese South Africans who are here today —they work together and make progress together every single day. They know that even as our nations compete in some areas, we can cooperate in so many others, in a spirit of mutual respect, for our mutual benefit.

What Deng Xiaoping said long ago remains true today, that there are still great possibilities for cooperation between our countries.

Let us seize these possibilities together. Welcome to China Home Life.

Hwan-ying.
